Brother Patience
A weasel-faced confidence man, liar, and petty thief who styles himself a “Brother” of the obscure deity Vesh the Unhurried — and who, against all odds, has become a genuinely loyal ally to Imedin. A con artist with a conscience.
Quick Reference
Appearance: Weasel-faced; the kind of face that makes you check for your coin purse. Damp, glistening eyes; trembling sincerity (cf. Post-Session 04 Carousing). Voice: All earnest pitches and tearful conviction. Catchphrase: “Vesh is never late. Vesh arrives exactly when Vesh means to.”
The Gospel of Vesh the Unhurried
Brother Patience preaches Vesh the Unhurried, a god no cleric in the city has ever heard of — symbolised by a wooden circle with an hourglass carved into it. Whether Vesh is real, or merely the most successful of Brother Patience’s schemes, remains an open question. His own confession, scrawled on a note: “The tonic is turnip water. But Vesh is real. Probably.”
In the Sessions
- Session 05 carousing (cf. Session 05 / Post-Session 04 Carousing): Met Imedin during a night of carousing and scammed him into investing 10% of his wealth in a turnip-water “Miracle Tonic.” But Imedin gave such a sincere drunken speech about honor that the con artist wept and pressed a wooden holy symbol of Vesh the Unhurried into his hands, declaring him “one of his.” Walked Imedin to safety at the Temple of the Dawn. Gained as an Ally.
- Session 06 carousing (cf. Post-Session 06 Carousing): Found Imedin again at the Slackline and led him to a roofless “shrine” — a collapsed cooper’s workshop in the Oilways with three pews and an hourglass nailed to a plank — to collect another “membership renewal” tithe. As Imedin paid, the sand in the hourglass appeared to stop for a breath; Brother Patience burst into tears. Since that night, the Vesh hourglass symbol around Imedin’s neck has stayed warm to the touch.
Current Status
A loyal (if larcenous) ally to Imedin. The Vesh hourglass he gave away has become uncanny — see Session 007 prep, where it can pause a death-clock for a round once per session (cf. Session 007 prep).
