An ancient pearl diver, preserved and spirit-like, bound to a holy underground lake beneath Shuttle’s Shipyard’s Dry Dock. She grants blessings in exchange for memories, speaks slowly as though remembering how words work, and finds Count Valdris “obnoxious.”

Background

Selane drowned in the holy lake long before Shuttle’s Shipyard was built, becoming bound to it as a spirit. The water grants blessings (temporary gills, water-breathing) but also takes memories from those who linger near it. She has coexisted with Count Valdris in the tunnels for centuries and finds him irritating.

In the Sessions

  • Session 02 (cf. Session 02): Emerged from the lake after Snagmaz drank from it and grew gills. Explained the memory tax. Imedin lost his memory of his first harvest; Nah Mean lost all memory of his romantic interest in Carla. When Snagmaz dove too deep, Nah Mean offered his most precious memory — the story of a dwarven princess and a stolen kiss — in exchange for Selane’s help retrieving him. She dove and returned in 30 seconds with a sputtering Snagmaz. In gratitude, she gave Nah Mean a Flask of Lake’s Blessing and led the party through an underwater passage to the parasite nest, singing the whole way.
  • Session 04 (cf. Session 04): Attended Count Valdris’s 851st birthday party briefly before vanishing back into the depths.

What She Can Do

  • Grant temporary gills (water breathing, ~10 minutes) to those who drink from or linger near the lake
  • Lead groups through the underwater passage to the Dry Dock mooring tunnels
  • Take memories in exchange for services — the more precious, the greater the boon
  • Refresh gills mid-dive by blowing air into a person’s mouth

Current Status

Bound to her lake beneath the Dry Dock. The underground passage she guards connects the holy lake to the parasite-nest tunnels.
