A nobleman of Shuttle’s Shipyard who funded Project Unravel — a Rival Yard operation to map the city’s structural weaknesses and instructions for dismantling its weave bindings. Fat, old, useless in a fight, and now in Fringe Guard custody.

Background

Baron Grimsby is a titled nobleman with an estate on the Fifth Terrace of Threadfall Heights. He cultivated connections to the Rival Yard and began selling the city’s defensive infrastructure maps and seam-crossing locations to their agent Shimmer. This operation was documented in the Grimsby Ledger, a thick record book recovered from his study desk.

His security master was Harlan Blackstitch, an ex-Edgerunner who handled the Baron’s muscle and intelligence work.

Project Unravel

Evidence recovered from Grimsby’s study (cf. Session 05) revealed:

  • Correspondence with the Rival Yard detailing seam crossings and defensive infrastructure
  • A diagram of the city showing precisely where undoing specific weave points would cause total collapse
  • Two silver vials (one from the study, one on his person when captured) of unidentified silvery substance connected to the operation

In the Sessions

  • Session 03 (cf. Session 03): Became an enemy of Nah Mean after the satirical ballad “His mother was a goat, his father was a boot” performed during carousing.
  • Session 04 (cf. Session 04): The Suspicious Merchant (later identified as Shimmer) was seen at Count Valdris’s birthday, then escaped to report tunnel intelligence to the Rival Yard.
  • Session 05 (cf. Session 05): The party infiltrated his gala as the band “Erect Since 1642” and recovered the Grimsby Ledger and correspondence. Grimsby was at the gala but the party left before confronting him directly.
  • Session 06 (cf. Session 06): Grimsby escaped when Harlan ambushed the prison wagon. Holed up in a cellar beneath the Filch Tannery with Harlan, Cutter Vin, two thugs, and a kidnapped Pip as leverage. Was quick-knotted by Declan in the surprise round and never landed a blow. Backhanded by Nah Mean. Delivered alive to Banner-Mistress Juno.

Current Status

In Fringe Guard custody. Delivered alive. Project Unravel is partially exposed but not stopped. The two silver vials remain unidentified. The Baron’s wife has not appeared on screen — her whereabouts are unknown.
